Harry P. Braunstein, Esq.
Harry was admitted to the New York and Federal bar in 1975. He practiced with the Wall Street law Firm Herzfeld & Rubin, P.C. for over twenty years, ultimately becoming head of its Real Estate department. Harry left Herzfeld & Rubin in the early ‘90s to concentrate on his various business interests and during this time practiced law for several years under the moniker Harry Braunstein, Attorney at Law. Driven by an entrepreneurial spirit and a vision for a well-rounded commercial law practice, Harry partnered with litigator William Turkish and founded Braunstein Turkish in 2009, laying the groundwork for the successful practice we operate today.
In a career spanning more than 50 years, Harry gained experience as a practicing attorney but also as a principal and a sponsor in businesses in many industries from law, banking, commercial real estate, restaurants, contracting and more. Harry represented several commercial and savings banks in the New York metropolitan area but he also served on the Board of Directors and Loan Committee for one of his clients for over 20 years, becoming Chairman of the Board and the largest single shareholder of the bank.
Over the years, Harry represented owners of retail and commercial real estate in the Tri-State area and across the country in complex acquisitions, re-financings, leasing, and sales, acting as counsel in transactions in the commercial real estate space well exceeding $1 Billion, including, among many others, various cooperative apartments and shopping center properties. Harry acted as general counsel to a large multi-unit franchise operator, providing guidance in capital formation, franchising, leasing, acquisition and sales. He was general counsel to a plumbing contractor, a window distributor, a landscaping business, a women’s apparel company – and even a group of individuals that owned a thoroughbred race horse together. He provided counsel in every important legal matter coming before these companies but he was also a principal and a member of the general parter in all these diverse enterprises.
Beyond his professional achievements, Harry was beloved by clients and colleagues alike. He treated every member of the Braunstein Turkish team like family and approached every challenge with a thoughtful perspective and a sharp wit. We will miss his wisdom, guidance, and humor. The Firm is committed to honoring Harry’s memory by continuing to uphold his legacy of excellence and integrity. We invite all who knew Harry to share their thoughts and memories with us.
